The reasons wireless video presentation is not quite as cheap as you think.

There are so many promises. Wireless Video Projector. Wireless Speaker. Wireless Micrphones. Wireless cable boxes (that is my favorite). Wireless toaster-ovens. Why can’t I just beam my video to my display? There are a hundred companies that say I can!

Well, it can be done, but it is not quite as easy to do it right as you might think.

Almost every wireless video presentation system requires a piece of software installed on the computer or source. Is your laptop really your own? Has your company approved that software?

After your lovely conversation with the IT department about your new software, now it is time to beam that bad-boy up to the screen. Now I just connect with wifi and BOOM, I am all set! Wait, now I can’t google my own name like I do every day at 2pm because I am connected to the projector instead of the internet! SO I cannot show my Mo-vember mustache postings without saving them to my hard drive.

Wait! Some of the wireless solutions let me connect to my projector using the company’s network. AWESOME! Problem solved. Now we can watch youtube videos of the world’s largest pancake IN REAL TIME!. Uh oh. Today we have Aunt Jemima in as a guest speaker, and she is not allowed on the company network (after what happened last time). Aside from the fact that she doesn’t’ have the software on her machine, that horrible woman stole our buttery rich company secrets last time. Epic pancake laptop fail.

So, along comes Click share from Barco. It uses a dongle plugged into USB. The software is on the dongle and not on the laptop. Plug it in, push the button. GO. Everyone loves dongles, and the Barco dongles are no exception. Now, AJ is not on our fluffly, blueberry filled network. WE are safe from her evil syrupy clutches and we are free to enjoy all that the internet has to offer becuase we did NOT use Aunt Jemima laptop wifi to connect to the projector. She can connect to the public and SAFE internet connection, connect to our projector , and display her thick and rich content for all to see!

There are many wireless video options out there…and some might cost a bit more. Most all of them work pretty well for basic stuff…but expect the unexpected when it comes to presentations. You rarely know what laptop, content and connectivity AJ might demand!
